Age Groups and Requirements

You can sing Shabads in a Raag or a Reet. Those signing in Raags shall only compete in the Raag category. Those signing Reets shall compete in Reet category

Age categories for Raag and Reets are as follows.

  • - Up to 14 years
  • -15 to 23 years
  • -24 and above

You can participate as an Individual singer or as a Group. If registering as a Group, make sure the registration is submitted under the lead singer's name

All group participants must be the same age or less than the lead singer. The age restriction does not apply to the accompanists such as tabla player or other instrument players.

Participants must bring their own accompanying instrumentalists, as they will be ranked for coordination with them. Should you still require the organizers to provide you with accompanying instrumentalists, then you must make such request at least 7 days before the first date of the program.

In Gurbani Keertan, music serves as a means to convey the Shabad's message. Music shall never overshadow the Shabad. Musical skill, composition, or performance should never take precedence over the divine wisdom.

The maintenance of Sikhi Saroop should be actively encouraged. Participants who uphold Sikhi Saroop will be judged just as others within their group. However, it is recommended that such participants be suitably recognized or rewarded.

The group will be determined based on the age of the main singer. The side singer can be within the same age group or younger but cannot be older. Shabad must be strictly from Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

Shabads may be sung in any raag, however it is encouraged that the Raag be the same as given in the title in Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

A Shabad labeled as Partaal in Sri Guru Granth Sahib must be sung in Partaal style only. A Shabad that is not written as Partaal shall not be sung as Partaal
